How Grieving Parents Can Stay Connected to Their Child after Loss

Updated: Jul 13, 2023

craving connection with a loved one

Losing a child is a profound experience that leaves grieving parents longing for a spiritual connection and a sense of closeness with their child in heaven. In this blog post, we will explore strategies and practices that can help grieving mothers and fathers foster a deeper spiritual bond with their child, allowing them to feel their presence and find solace in their spiritual connection.

Creating a Sacred Space

Establishing a sacred space within your home can serve as a physical sanctuary where you can connect with your child's spirit. Decorate this space with meaningful objects, such as photographs, candles, or items that hold sentimental value. Spend time in this space for quiet reflection, meditation, and prayer to enhance your spiritual connection. When we sit quietly and listen, we are more likely to 'hear' or feel spirit. When we are constantly busy or scrolling through our phones, we are not open to connection.

Communing with Nature

Nature provides a profound backdrop for spiritual connection. Spend time in natural environments that hold significance for you and your child. Engage in activities like walking, sitting by a peaceful river, or visiting a favorite park. Allow the beauty and tranquility of nature to help you feel closer to your departed child.

Rituals and Ceremonies

Create personalized rituals and ceremonies that honour and connect with your child's spirit. Lighting a candle, saying prayers or affirmations, or releasing symbolic objects into a body of water are meaningful practices that can deepen your spiritual connection. Engaging in these rituals regularly can help maintain a sense of closeness and presence. This might include the simple practice of talking to your child or writing them letters.

Meditation and Visualization

Through meditation and visualization, you can create a sacred space within your mind to connect with your child's spirit. Practice deep breathing, quiet your mind, and visualize yourself in a peaceful setting with your child. Engage in a loving conversation or simply feel their presence. These techniques can facilitate a profound spiritual connection.

Signs and Synchronicities

Remain open to signs and synchronicities that may indicate your child's spiritual presence. These signs can manifest in various ways, such as vivid dreams, meaningful coincidences, or encounters with specific symbols or animals. Pay attention to these experiences, as they can offer reassurance and deepen your spiritual connection. My rule of thumb is this: if you wonder if something is a sign, then it's a sign.

Seek Support from Spiritual Communities

Connect with spiritual communities or support groups that understand and embrace the concept of spiritual connections with departed loved ones. Share experiences, learn from others' journeys, and find solace in the collective wisdom and understanding of these communities. Their support can strengthen your spiritual connection with your child.

Feeling connected with a departed child can bring comfort, healing, and a profound sense of closeness for grieving parents. By creating sacred spaces, communing with nature, engaging in rituals, practicing meditation and visualization, remaining open to signs, and seeking support from spiritual communities, parents can deepen their spiritual bond. Through these practices, parents can feel the presence of their departed child and experience a spiritual connection that provides solace, guidance, and a lasting connection beyond the physical realm.

Sending love and light,
